Wow man. glad to hear you're on a healthier path now. Artfully woven again into your unique style that keeps me coming back. The thought of your health bringing your partner to tears is such a tug on the heart strings.
Look at this streak your on! Inform The Academy, Oscar is here to stay!
Perhaps you've made the case for healthy (or is it healthful?) shame? A skilfully told and powerful personal story that segues so well into your movie recommendation.
I relate a little bit too much to the 7-11 hotdogs *tears*. Having my own journey with sugar (always ongoing) I could relate to the moment of getting your results but not realizing it's a problem until you see it through someone else's eyes. Another great essay and movie I now need to add to my "to watch" list.
Dear Michelle, thank you so, so much for your comments and for your always valuable suggestions and feedback, it wouldn’t have been the same without you.
So glad to know you related and that you too are on the good path now! I know it’s not easy.
At first glance your article seems to be about health, but visiting here after seeing your Twitter post (Being seen through the eyes of someone you deeply love and trust can be a powerful motivator) I can see it's really about healthy relationships. In fact I've seen research I'm sure about this, that healthy relationships are one of the biggest determinants of physical health. Glad you are on a less asterixed path!
Kind of like "you're the average of the 5 people you hang out the most", you're right, healthy relationships impact physical health, great point and hadn't seen it like that. Love how it can evolve and how you found a more macro-level interpretation.
Thank you Rick! Will start using that phrase "asterixed path" 😂👌
Ooof body stuff is such a tough vulnerable subject to tackle. Very inspiring to see you writing about it, Oscar. I think it’s a struggle so many of us are familiar with in different ways. But not easy to talk about.
From what you’ve shared, it really sounds like you’ve been on an endless journey of making healthier life choices across the board and confronting difficult parts of yourself. I love when you share these personal bits.
This is such a good line: “Being seen through the eyes of someone you deeply love and trust can have powerful effects.”
What a wonderful and heart-warming comment Sandra 😌 I appreciate it deeply.
It IS something very common to struggle with, and when in retrospect I realized what had been my catalyst for deep change, I was surprised, and then struggled with putting it down into words, and very glad I did, both for myself and for receiving comments like yours.
Will attempt to tackle the personal bits more often :)
Also, usually everyone has a catalyst for deep change in any realm, and if they're looking for it, they eventually find it.
And I know we're both on the same path of attempting to become better people.
That makes a lot of sense, I totally relate to that. And there's so many things to explore about ourselves through writing, I think in time, the words will unearth themselves when they're ready to/when we're ready for them to.
Also really cool to just hear all this from a man to be honest. I appreciate that.

Your encouraging and thoughtful comments are always gems in and of themselves, I’m flushing, thank you so much my dear friend!

What a wonderful coined term Tai, hadn't realized that and it fits perfectly, thank you! For that, and for your kind and thoughtful comment

Yes, you're right, that 5 people rule applies to this too.
