I really like that poem. It’s so true. This last year I’ve never been more busy or more stressed in my life and yet I’ve also written the most I ever have.
And now that I publish biweekly instead of weekly I’m finding that I don’t publish content that is twice as good. I just spend them extra time doing other stuff that’s not as important...
Completely get that, and with your comment I realize there might be a causality there, where the harder the situation, the more often we show up and more quality we reach. Should we artificially corner ourselves into complicated situations? I see how it can go sideways (and fall into "tormented artist" territory), but also ways it can make us flourish.
Thank you for stopping by Grant, and will share it when it's finished!
Camilo, thank you so much for such a kind and encouraging comment! I'll keep you posted and share the win with people like you who've supported me along the way :)
Okay, I don’t think you mentioned you were going to do your own version of Bukowski, I thought you were just going to simply share his poem. I’m obsessed with this! Reading it made me so happy. I’ll never be able to read this poem again without thinking about your version now. More poetry from Oscar, please.
[Also, I obviously can’t help but hear Isaac Brock’s voice singing in my head !!!!!]
I love the idea of using that line as a mantra. It’s a perfect one. I actually have a kind of similar thing, but I don’t know if I’ve told you before. 👀
& thank you for sharing that weird Bobby Fingers video. It reminded me and reinforced the need [and desire] to make more weird things [together, too] and that is perfect timing.
Well, what a great honor that your memory of the poem is now anchored to my version :))) That makes me very happy. More poetry from Bukowskar you mean? Haha
Now it's me who can't believe I didn't think of Modest Mouse's song when writing this! "But God who'd want to be such an asshole?..."
You haven't told me about your mantra and now I'm dying to hear about it...
Let's make all the weird things together soon!
Muchos, muchos abrazos de regreso y muchas, muchas gracias por pasar por aquí
I LOVE that you're sharing this Bukowski poem. It's always lit a fire under me. But I'd never thought of modifying it to more squarely guide my own inspiration in the context of my personal life circumstance. What a bold and beautiful use of his supercharged poetry.
Rick! Happy, and not surprised, that you knew the poem. "Lit a fire under me" is such an accurate description. The modifying came about trying to convey what it means, and will mean to me, and proved very helpful (hopefully Bukowski is not turning in his grave haha). Glad you enjoyed it and that we have a shared love for the poem!

Can’t wait to see the film!

Not necessarily corner ourselves, unless necessary. But a bit of limitation and deadlines and expectations are good.
Although Dostoevsky did sell his coat in the winter in order to force himself to write
Oscar! I'm glad you are doing the microfilm. You are doing it man! Excited to see what you learn and how you feel once the project is all done.

Give the people all the microfilm updates!

Love this Oscar. Such a neat idea to contextualize a poem that’s had meaning to you to your own life experience!
Thank you for writing & sharing this :)
Thanks a lot, Tommy! For stopping by and sharing your thoughts. It was definitely fun and made me find a deeper layer to it. Glad you liked it :)
Buenas suerte, mi amigo.
Buena suerte para ti también, estimado Lononaut.
